Tourist attractions in Cartagena

The number of tourist attractions in Cartagena make it the most popular destination for tourists in Colombia. The inhabitants of the place, the beautiful beaches and the superior infrastructure of the hotels of Cartagena are all praiseworthy too. However, it is the tourist attractions in Cartagena that secures for it a coveted place in the tourism map of Colombia and the world. It is for these places of interest that more and more tourists keep visiting the city every year.

The El Corralito de Piedra is one of the most visited Cartagena attractions. This has been a settlement since long having lot of historical significance. Here there was a wall enclosure created in order to protect the city from attacks during 1556-1608. Inside the walls there lies many ancient buildings and streets. There can be seen residences of yesteryears having wooden balconies. Romantic bars and restaurants lie outside the walls.

El Laguito is the region of the city to be visited to check out for bars and restaurants. If you want to taste the local cuisines then visit any of the restaurants out here. Tourists from all over the world can be seen thronging the beaches here. A number of entertainment places like discos and casinos are located here in front of the sea set in a tropical ambiance.

Bocagrande is another famous place of Cartagena that has special calm zones having the very best in tourist infrastructure. Then there are the Baru and Rosario islands that have beautiful beaches. Diving among reefs here and taking of ecologic walks in the natural and pleasant environment of the white sand beaches of the islands are commonly pursued by tourists.

The city center holds quite a few of the tourist attractions in Cartagena. There are several important historical places here. The Puerta del Reloj or The Clock's Door located here serves as the symbol of Cartagena and also as a representative of the country. This had been the door that facilitated communication between the city and the Getsemani village. There are also the La Plaza de los Coches, the Botivar and the Plaza de la Aduana squares that are of historical and aesthetic value.
